Voice Lessons

Kerstin O’Shields singing O Holy Night at a benefit concert for Maple Valley Food Bank.
After studying with 2 other teachers, I met Kerstin and was blown away by how much I was able to grow in such a short amount of time. I had never had a teacher that was so well rounded and able to teach in many different styles ensuring the understanding and comprehension of the student for certain techniques. After beginning lessons with Kerstin, I took 2nd place in the state for the soprano solo category my junior year and 1st in the state for the soprano solo category my senior year. I also placed highly at NATS competitions, received 2 music scholarships, and was admitted into a highly competitive Bachelors vocal program. I did work hard for these accomplishments, but without the guidance and critical teaching of Kerstin, I would not have been near the singer I was molded into. As I have looked around at other studios, there is no comparison in the volume of student success above those that are taking from O’Shields studio. I am so grateful for the fantastic training that I received through O’Shields studio at such a reasonable and affordable amount. Kaitlin Duffy

Voice Lessons
Voice lessons are a wonderful experience for students who enjoy singing and revel in feeling confident in their abilities. I enjoy the experience of working with students one-on-one to bring out their vocal potential to prepare for performances and to pursue their personal goals.

Focusing on natural body functions and positioning allows a release of tension giving freedom to the voice and the ability to express during a performance. I work with the student to bring out their natural voice, applying classical techniques that can be used in any genres of music. The weekly lessons are taught in my Maple Valley studio.

Lessons are charged at an hourly rate. Lesson spaces are filled on a first-come first-served basis; 30, 45, and 60-minute duration lessons are available. Please contact me for my current lesson opportunities and rates.

My qualifications as a voice instructor and a professional performer are broad in range and include:

  • A Bachelors of Music Education From Western Washington University.
  • Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and Treasurer for the local Tahoma NATS Chapter.
